Although Pittsburgh has trailed benchmark regions in wage growth in recent years, that gap is narrowing. The Pittsburgh MSA had a 5.0 percent increase in annual wages between 2005 and 2006 and outpaced the U.S. average. Between 2006 and 2007, annual wages in Pittsburgh rose another 5.3 percent, and between 2007 and 2008 they rose by 2.8 percent. The numbers for average weekly wages which are tabulated separately continued to be positive through the fourth quarter of 2008.
